Billie Clemens joins Mountain Discovery with 36 years of teaching experience as a history educator. Her passion for history and for encouraging kids to challenge themselves led her to work with the Advanced Placement United States History program including serving on the Test Development Committee for the national exam, and leadership roles at the AP Reading.  Along with teaching, Billie has served as the Director of the Gifted and Talented program for Swain County Schools and as a mentor to new teachers.  In addition to her work with current teachers, she also teaches aspiring history teachers at Western Carolina University.   Billie is excited to be joining Mountain Discovery as an Instructional Coach because supporting teachers in the craft and art of teaching ultimately benefits the students.

Billie and her husband Gary live in Sylva along with a flock of chickens, a couple of goats, and their cat Zelda Fitzgerald.   They have two grown sons who are both Captains in the US Army.  In her spare time, Billie can often be found walking at Deep Creek and dreaming of her next travel adventure.
