Hi, my name is Kestral Welch. I graduated from Western Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology with a focus on child development. I completed my teaching internship in first grade at MDCS, where I quickly fell in love with both the school community and teaching first grade. Coming from a family of teachers, I have always known that teaching was the path for me.
My goal as a teacher is to create a warm and welcoming environment where all students feel supported, encouraged, and excited to learn. I value teaching through collaborative, hands-on experiences that encourage students to take an active role in their education.
I was born and raised on the Outer Banks and moved to Sylva six years ago. While the beach will always feel like home, I have grown to love the mountains just as much. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time in nature with my soon to be husband (Sam), my pet bunny (Dobby) and my dog (Koda).
